Gary Welsh memorial bike ride

A charity coast to coast bike ride in aid of Help for Heroes has raised almost £1,500 in memory of ex PDM employee Gary Welsh.

Over the August Bank Holiday weekend, Douglas Brown, Ivan Guilar and Reed Burton undertook a 110 mile coast-to-coast bike ride in aid of charity; the sponsored ride raised almost £1,500 for Help for Heroes.

The trio of cyclists were raising money in memory of Gary Welsh, who worked at the De Mulder & Sons plant at Hartshill for the past six years and who sadly passed away from cancer eaflier this year at the age of 46.

The riders started their journey at 5am on Saturday morning from Bowness on Solway on the West Coast and made their way 50 miles in the shadow of Hadrian’s Wall to their first overnight stop in Hexham. Sunday morning saw them on their way again through the city centre of Newcastle and onto Sunderland to reach the East Coast.

Monday morning saw the final leg of the journey travelling down to Gary’s home town of Peterlee, calling on their way at Gary’s grave to pay their respects, arriving at their final destination the Moorcock Pub to be met by Gary’s parents and family.

Special thanks for support go to Chris Rushton and staff at De Mulder & Sons Ltd, Hartshill, Davison Transport of Coventry, Halfords of Nuneaton, Karen Rollins at PDM Group, Doncaster and M&P Jones Transport of Old Arley.
